St George's Celebrates Book Week
Posted 03/03/2017 14:30

This year Book Week has been extremely productive! At the beginning of Book Week Year 5 and 6 students welcomed special guest, Ali Seegar to the school where she presented her children’s book ‘Tommy Turner’s Tremendous Travels’, Reception students greeted a very special guest who taught them how to create shadow puppet shows based around the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'.

Mid-week St George’s had the privilege of welcoming the renowned author, Gillian Cross to the school. She spent three days with Primary students providing workshops on creative ideas, writing and original character building, enabling the students to unlock their imagination.

Staff had the unique opportunity to attend a meeting especially for them, where Mrs Cross gave them an insight into her workshops, she covered role play and gave guidelines on what works for her when working with children. At the end of the meeting, staff had time to get to know Gillian through a question and answer session.

St George’s hosted its annual Book Fair in the conference room allowing students to buy books that sparked their interest. LAMDA students put on a fantastic performance of ‘The Demon Headmaster’, written by Gillian Cross and adapted by Ruth Gillen. This was a great hit amongst the students as well as parents which was topped off by having Gillian Cross herself watch the show and be thoroughly impressed by it!

To end a fantastic Book Week, all Primary students came into school today dressed up as magnificent Book characters. Gillian presented the assembly where she told a story that had the students hooked from her very first words, transporting them into their own world of imagination.

Later on this afternoon students will have the opportunity to have copies of their books signed by Gillian Cross and Ali Seegar.

A huge thank you to all our special guests who have visited the school this week. They have all contributed to giving our students an even stronger passion for reading and writing!
